Use Of Toothpick

In the dental clinic, there are many patients with "tooth plug". This may seem like a small problem, but it brings a lot of pain. Yu Qing, chief physician of the Department of prosthodontics of Nanjing Stomatology Hospital, reminded that dental fillings, that is, food impaction, are easy to lead to inflammation and destruction of local periodontal tissue, gingival recession, caries and halitosis, acute periodontitis and gingival abscess, and patients feel pain and bleeding. Food impaction is mostly caused by abnormal contact between adjacent teeth, excessive wear of tooth surfaces or gingival atrophy. In addition, when teeth suffer from caries and form caries holes, it is also easy to lead to food impaction. When the embedded food touches the pulp nerve, the patient feels very painful.
When examining the causes of food impaction clinically, it is often found that many factors coexist. After food impaction, eating becomes a burden. What should I do? Dental specialists usually solve the problem one by one by adjusting molars, crown restoration, orthodontics, caries treatment and filling. After treatment, the symptoms of food impaction disappeared in some patients. However, some patients still have food impaction symptoms. At this time, the patients need to rely on their own with the help of toothpicks and floss.
It is best to choose a toothpick with a flat circular or triangular cross section
There is also stress in the use of toothpicks. Toothpicks should be hard in texture, not easy to break, with smooth surface, no burr and flat circular or triangular cross section. It is best to buy finished toothpicks on the market. Pay attention to keep them clean and do not replace them with dirty wooden sticks, iron wires, pins or matchsticks. The toothpick is best used when there is a gap between the teeth. The toothpick enters at an angle of 45 degrees, the tip faces the tooth surface of the bite, and the lateral edge contacts the gum of the gap. Then scrape the tooth surface along the tooth surface with the side edge of the toothpick, especially in the concave root surface and the bifurcation of the tooth root, scrape the tooth surface with the tip and side edge of the toothpick, and polish the tooth surface. If there is food fiber impaction, do buccal lingual puncture, remove the food, and then rinse your mouth. If the gingival papilla is normal, the toothpick is only used in the gingival sulcus. Do not press the toothpick into the interdental papilla area, because this will form a gap between the teeth that have no gap, and the food is easier to be impaled.
When there is no dental floss, it can also be replaced by fine silk thread for sewing
Nylon floss or dental floss wax is a kind of dental floss. When there is no dental floss, it can also be replaced by fine silk thread for sewing. When in use, take a section of dental floss with appropriate length, wrap its two ends around the middle fingers of both hands, tighten it with thumb and index finger, leave a distance of several centimeters in the middle, and pull the dental floss into the teeth where the food is embedded with a gentle sawing action. Do not use too much force to avoid damaging gums. Then tighten the floss, gently pull the floss along the front, back, left and right directions of the teeth gap, and the embedded food can be brought out with the movement of the floss. If the floss is close to the tooth surface in a "C" shape, and gently move from the root to the crown, the tartar and plaque attached to the tooth surface can also be removed. After flossing, rinse your mouth with water to remove residual plaque and food residues.
